Keynote speakers James Murray, London's deputy mayor for housing and John Healey MP, shadow secretary of state for housing, called on the government to play its role in delivering more affordable homes.

Leading the speeches at Sitematch London, Murray said: "We want everyone to play their role, whether that is council, housing associations, private sector partners and government departments.

"We are very clear that we want [the] government to play a bigger role to make sure they give us the resources and powers we need for a real step change".

Healey MP echoed this: "We need a policy framework which facilitates good development, and this lies largely with national government".

Earlier this year the government announced the creation of a new housing agency, Homes England, tasked with developing a new commercial approach to acquiring, preparing, managing and developing land in areas of high housing demand.
